Getting Your Winter Glow Routine Ready for the Holidays

The holidays have a way of arriving faster than anyone expects. One minute it's late October, and the next there's a party on the calendar and you're trying to remember where you put the good shoes. If a tanning lotion is part of how you like to get ready, a little planning goes a long way. Here's how I'd think about it.

Start with the calendar

Look at the events you care about, then work backward. A holiday dinner, a work party, a trip, a family photo. Write the dates down somewhere you'll see them.

Why bother? Because you'll make calmer decisions with a few weeks of runway than you will the night before. Ordering takes time, shipping takes time, and trying a new product for the first time right before something important is a stressful way to learn how it works for you.

If you're buying something new, give yourself room to use it a few times before the big day. You'll feel more at home with your routine that way.

Keep up the moisturizing habit

Winter air is dry, and heated rooms make it drier. Whatever your tanning routine looks like, a regular moisturizing habit is a nice thing to have around it. Many people find it simplest to tie it to something they already do, like right after a shower or just before bed.

A steady routine is easier to keep than a scattered one, and lotion that feels good to use is lotion you'll actually use.

Picking a lotion

There's no single right answer here, because people want different things. Some like a lotion with bronzers in it. Others prefer to skip them. Some care about fragrance, and some care about how rich or light the texture is.

We put together a longer walkthrough in how to choose indoor tanning lotion, and I'd point you there if you're comparing options.

A few simple questions can narrow things down:

  • Do I want a lotion with bronzers or without?
  • Do I mind a scent?
  • Is this for one event, or for the whole season?

Then read the product pages. They list ingredients and describe what each product is meant to be. As one example, the Honeymoon page says color develops and deepens in the hours after tanning. That's useful to know when you're planning, because it means the timing of your session matters. It's one more reason to read the page rather than guess.

Read the directions

I know. Nobody wants to read the small print. But the directions on the bottle are the most reliable guide to using that specific product, and they can differ from one lotion to the next. Take two minutes with them when you open a new bottle. If something is unclear, write to us and we'll help you sort out what a term means.

Timing around your events

If a product describes color developing over several hours, think about when you'll be putting it on in relation to when you'll be seen. Many people build in a little buffer rather than scheduling things back to back, and plan for a regular day rather than a rushed one.

Also think about what you'll be wearing. If you're planning an outfit, have it picked out ahead of time. It's one less thing to scramble over.

A small budget note

If you're placing an order, the code WELCOME10 takes $10 off orders of $40 or more.

A calm finish

The best holiday routine is the one that doesn't add stress. Plan a little, keep your habits simple, read what's on the label, and leave some breathing room.

Thanks for reading, and happy holidays to you and yours.
